Malaysia has transitioned to the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) phase in the months-long effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and the current phase is scheduled to end on Aug 31.
In the RMCO phase, most sectors of the economy are allowed to reopen, including barbershops, hair salons, and markets. However, there are Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to be followed to prevent a second outbreak.
For institutions such as schools and universities, they are expected to carry out teaching and learning activities online until Dec 31.
To date, only specific categories of students will be allowed on campus.
The higher education ministry released a statement saying that the exemptions would cover 5 categories of students who would return to their various campuses in stages.
Narrowing down further, only students who are required by the authorities to be in school or those who need special equipment for experiments are expected to be in school.
For those who can’t be in school yet, the transition from face-to-face learning to online learning can pose difficulty for students who aren’t familiar with this terrain.
Here are 6 things you can do to make this transition effortless.
Get the Right Tech Tools
In moving effortlessly from face-to-face classes to online learning, you will need to have the required technological tools to attend class.
These tools include a computer, Internet connection, speakers/headphones, access to the platform where you can download class videos or materials.
Have Self Discipline
Online learning requires a lot of self-discipline.
With all that freedom and no one to physically monitor your progress and participation, any student can easily be distracted.
Activities such as surfing the web, going on social media, watching television, and playing game can take you away from your schoolwork.
If you find that you are distracted easily, switch off all other devices and apps that can distract you from your learning.
Organise Your Workspace
Actively create a space in your home for doing schoolwork and virtually on your computer.
It doesn’t mean that you have to build a new room in your home for schoolwork.
It can be a corner in your bedroom or living room — where you can set up your tools and books.
Keep separate online or offline folders for each class.
Being organised will save you time.
Learn Time Management
Time management is a necessity as you make your switch to online learning.
If you can manage your time, the easier it will be to achieve your goals.
Create a to-do list and list them according to their importance.
This will not only increase your productivity but also help you in your personal life.
Set an Online Learning Schedule
With online learning, you will have to create a new schedule for your studies.
This is to prevent you from missing out on your classes and exams.
Though class times might remain the same, you will have plenty of time to work on other things that interests you.
Having a schedule will enable you to keep track of your progress.
Keep in Touch With Your Teachers/Instructors
It’s important to talk to your instructor as often as possible.
Talk about your concerns and areas you’re experiencing challenges with regards to your coursework.
Being connected is vital to online learning success.
Online learning can be fun and effective, but if you do not have the necessary skills and attributes, such as time management skills and self-discipline, it too can become boring and ineffective.
Following the above tips, your transition to online learning would be a smooth and easy process.
