Life Sciences Subjects

From animal behaviour, and biology to crime and investigative studies, there are many ways apart from the diverse courses that make life science subjects a popular choice at Anglia Ruskin University.

The courses at Anglia Ruskin University prepare students for the workplace of today and tomorrow. The academic staff ensures that the curriculum delivered is up-to-date, taking from their experience in research and networking with the industry. 

Students will also take field trips to expose themselves to their future work environments, mainly Forensic Science and Animal Science trips: 

Forensic science, crime, and investigative field trips

• Students will conduct excavation and investigation exercises during field visits. 
• Students will also visit mortuary, and courtroom visits and take part in mass disaster cases.  

Animal science field trips

• Students will go on on-site visits to develop an understanding of habitat conservation, build identification skills, and gain valuable employment skills.
• Field trips may not just be conducted locally, but abroad as well, with past visits to the Netherlands, Africa, and the Red Sea. 

Students have state-of-the-art facilities from specialist tissue culture labs, and crime scene rooms to microbiology labs in the university’s GBP 45 million Science Centre. 

Mechanical Engineering

Students opting for the mechanical engineering course at Anglia Ruskin University will have the same learning approach as medical students, where classroom-based knowledge will be gradually replaced with more hands-on practical skills by working with real-life challenges and clients. 

Students will explore modules in various areas of engineering, including materials, design and modelling, manufacturing, thermodynamics, and more. This is the university’s effort to make sure that students have a complete learning experience vital to making them an all-rounded engineer once they graduate. 

Students will also get to experience bringing their ideas to life and presenting them to peers and experts of the industry through Anglia Ruskin University’s Live Briefs, an innovative curriculum aimed at giving opportunities to put learning into action and for students to showcase their talents. Students will graduate with accreditation by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (iMechE) on behalf of the Engineering Council. This, added to the council being part of the Washington Accord, allows students to practice what they’ve learned globally. 

Media and Communication

The Media and Communication degree at Anglia Ruskin University prepares students to be ready to work in today’s fast-moving industry. Students will explore issues such as digital media theory, identity and representation, as well as politics and popular culture. 

Students are also taught to analyse and debate the latest theories and discover the impact of media on society, such as the role of “Fake News” and the ethical responsibility of journalism.
