The University of Liverpool’s Law School is one of the oldest law departments in the UK. Despite that, students will revolve their studies around a modern approach to legal education, reflecting the needs and concerns of 21st-century society. 

While lectures are usually held in large groups, students will get a more focused approach in tutorials, where teaching is conducted in smaller groups. Students will also learn from leading researchers in the field of law and will be provided alternative teaching methods to give a more broad-based learning experience.

The University of Liverpool also provides regular career opportunities via events and an annual law fair where students can meet future employers. Students can also leverage the expertise of the industry by getting members of the legal profession to be their mentors. One special feature of the University of Liverpool’s law degree is the Law Clinic, where students get their first taste of professional practice. The School of Engineering at the University of Liverpool has seen a significant rise in rankings, particularly for their Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering courses, which currently place in the Top 100 in the QS World Rankings 2024.

Students have an added advantage to hone their craft in the engineering field at the university, thanks to the world-class, modern, engineering teaching and learning facilities provided by the University of Liverpool’s School of Engineering. 

The University of Liverpool recently invested GBP32 million in the facilities, which encompasses active learning labs, robotics teaching labs, a Formula Student workshop, and a PC suite placed in the school. 

Also, present within the School of Engineering is internationally leading research centres for engineering dynamics, engineering sustainability, and materials and structures, such as the Albert Crewe Centre for Electron Microscopy, where researchers look at developing new applications for gas, liquid or open cell experiments. 

The University of Liverpool’s prestige and involvement with the Russell Group has also allowed students to work with industrial leaders, most recently, Virgin, Airbus, Ford, Augusta Westland, and Renishaw. Notable highlights include a graduate of the university being involved in the first-ever Virgin Galactic fully crewed space flight back in 2021. 

Upon graduation at the undergraduate level, students will receive partial accreditation by the Institution of Engineering and Technology on behalf of the Engineering Council and can receive full accreditation with the postgraduate route. Architecture Studies

The University of Liverpool has a long and proud tradition of being the best in architectural education and research, and it’s also one of the best places to study architecture as various locations in Liverpool are protected under the UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

The University of Liverpool is also the 1st university in the world to open a planning school. Within the Russell Group, it is also the 1st ranked university for teaching quality for the Architecture course. 

One of the advantages that students will gain is working in an industrial environment, where classes are conducted in comfortable, well-lit studios. The hi-tech design studio, built in 1987 was a prominent feature in the Architects’ Journal when it was opened. The studio is also accessible for students all day round to students to work on projects and conduct collaborative work between students of different years. 

The Liverpool School of Architecture is also an internationally recognised centre for architectural and built environment research. Research in the university commonly revolves around the preservation of urban heritage, designing environmentally focused and sustainable architecture, as well as providing insights into Liverpool’s architectural history. 

The course is accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Architects Registration Board (ARB), where the undergraduate degree constitutes Part 1 of the education before receiving professional registration. This also applies to Malaysian students seeking a similar pathway at home, where the degree only covers Part 1 of the Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia education.

Accounting and Finance

The Accounting and Finance course at the University of Liverpool ranks 1st in the Russell Group for teaching quality and student experience and ranks 14th in the UK according to the Times Good University Guide 2023. Studying the discipline at the University of Liverpool also means students get broad exposure to almost every aspect of the accounting and finance sector, giving them that added depth of knowledge in the industry even before graduation. 

Classes are conducted at the University of Liverpool’s Management School, where students can make use of the McKenzie Trading Suite, the largest Bloomberg Suite in any UK university. The suite allows students to access data from across market sectors, collecting data, news, and analytics as part of their course. Students also benefit from the Bloomberg Market Concepts course, offered free for Management School students. 

Research is also a prominent figure for students in the discipline, and this is also where students will see a broader range of disciplines that they can be involved with.
