Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Appointed As Uni Enrol Independent Non-Executive Director

Uni Enrol, described as Malaysia’s leading scholarship and university application platform, appointed Tunku Zain Al-‘Abidin Tuanku Muhriz as its Independent Non-Executive Director.

Tunku Zain, a respected public intellectual, has previously served as chancellor, pro-chancellor, fellow, or trustee of both public and private universities, bringing deep expertise in policy and education.

In his new role, he is expected to ensure that Uni Enrol’s expansion remains grounded in its core purpose of levelling the playing field for all Malaysian youth.

He was also named Honorary Chair for the 2026 Scholarship Acceleration programme, as the initiative prepares to surpass RM100 million in cumulative scholarships facilitated for Malaysian students. The programme aims to increase annual scholarship matching to RM17 million in 2026 alone and benefit more than 10,000 students nationwide in the coming years.

Uni Enrol CEO Rickson Khaw noted that the RM100 million milestone reflects nine years of contributions from community partners, educators, and local partners across every state in Malaysia since the flagship Scholar Search launched in 2018.

On his appointment, Tunku Zain said he was particularly inspired by the platform’s grassroots legacy and that his focus would be on ensuring transparency, accountability, and strategic rigour as the company pursues its RM100 million milestone.

He also expressed hope to see more young Malaysians, particularly Bumiputera youths, complete their higher education, and mentioned plans to add a Malay-language version of the website by mid-year.
