HELP University, formerly known as HELP Institute and later HELP University College, is a household name among students in Malaysia seeking to progress their education at a private university. Established in 1986, by Chancellor Paul Chan Tuck Hoong and Chan-Low Kam Yoke, it attained University College status in 2004 and full university status in 2011. If you didn’t already know, HELP stands for Higher Education Learning Philosophy.
HELP was the first institution outside the United Kingdom to offer the University of London External Programme’s Diploma in Economics and among the first to provide A-level studies. 2.1 HELP University Subang 2 Campus Review

Location and Surrounding Vibe: Also referred to as the Subang Bestari Campus, the flagship campus of HELP is nestled in the fast growing township area of Kwasa Damansara in Shah Alam. Majority of HELP’s courses are offered at this campus.
The campus occupies a large 23 acre site with greenery and tranquillity as the focus of its atmosphere. The campus is spread over 7 blocks that houses learning facilities, sports facilities, faculty and administration areas and is able to accommodate up to 2,500 students at any point of time.
The campus design revolving around the theme of tropical rainforests won awards at the IFLA Asia Pacific Awards 2019, the Malaysia Landscape Architecture Awards 2018 and PAM Awards 2017.
Due to its environment and sustainability focused design features, such as open corridors, cross ventilation, rain water harvesting, energy efficient lighting and use of recycled materials throughout the campus, it also earned the Green Building Index (GBI) certification.

Ease of Accessibility to Campus: There are Rapid KL bus services outside the campus with various pick-up points from Kelana Jaya all the way to Subang 2. Both the Subang 2 campus and Damansara Heights campus are connected via the MRT Sungai Buloh to Kajang Line. The closest MRT station to the Subang 2 campus is Kwasa Sentral Station. There are Rapid KL feeder buses that shuttle to and fro from the station to the campus. There are ample parking spaces within the campus grounds.
Student Diversity: 25% of HELP’s student population consist of international students from around the Asian and African region like Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, Sri Lanka, India, Kenya and Tanzania. 2.2 HELP Damansara Heights Campus Review
Location and Surrounding Vibe: The HELP Damansara Heights campus is located in a very strategic area in Kuala Lumpur nearby many public transportation, amenities, food and shopping malls.
The campus is spread out over 3 blocks which are the main campus in Pusat Bandar Damansara (PBD), Wisma HELP building and Kompleks Perdagangan Damansara (KPD). These blocks are not within the same compound but are near one another and are connected via a free shuttle bus for the convenience of the students.


The location is convenient for part-time students who are working as the campus is located just 10 to 15 minutes’ drive away from the heart of KL. Courses offered in this campus are for selected business, communication, hospitality, law, psychology and postgraduate studies.
Ease of Accessibility to Campus: The campus is within walking distance from the Semantan MRT station and has Rapid KL feeder buses stopping outside the campus blocks. There are also nearby shopping malls such as Pavilion Damansara Heights and DC Mall to hang out which are 10 minutes walk away.
2.3 Learning Resources
Faculty Learning Resources & Facilities: The HELP Subang 2 Campus has a plethora of facilities to stimulate learning such as the Bloomberg Finance Lab for business and finance students and the Electroencephalogram (EEG) Psychology Lab for psychology students to conduct research.
General Learning Resources & Facilities: Both campuses are well equipped with complete facilities and amenities for an inviting learning environment.
2.4 Recreational Facilities
There is a Sports Hub at the HELP Subang 2 campus which includes gyms, indoor and outdoor courts, a swimming pool, and fields for sporting activities.






2.5 Student Activities
There are over 100 clubs and societies to join and every year various masterclasses and workshops are open to all students to attend to help them level up in hard and soft skills or to simply meet new friends.
Some of the interesting masterclasses include learning italian food cooking, muay thai, ultimate frisbee, lego handicraft, k-pop dance workshop, podcasting, stand-up comedies, movie editing, vocal workshop and cosplay workshops. Of course there are also plenty of conventional life skill workshops such as financial literacy, public speaking, psychology crash courses and more.

There are also ongoing inter-departmental tertiary level competitions as a way to foster stronger bonds among faculties. Debates, board games, sports, singing competitions, amazing race, and e-sports are just a few examples of the rich experience you can experience in your university life
The campus will throw cultural celebrations and other events such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Korean Carnival, International Food and Culture Festival, Indian Gala Night, Halloween and Christmas.

Being a university renowned for its psychology studies and research, HELP’s Centre for Psychological and Counselling Services (CPCS) is well prepared to support students facing any form of personal and mental challenges.

2.7 HELP Subang 2 Student Accommodation
Off-Campus: There are no on-campus accommodations. However, HELP works with accommodation operators to provide options for off-campus housing. These are nearby apartments and landed properties comprising Atria Residences, Damai Apartments and HP Villa. Free shuttle buses are provided to commute to the campus.
Accommodation Costs: Rooms come with all the basic amenities as well as air-conditioning and fan. Rental ranges from RM450 to RM800 per room per month depending on triple, double sharing or single occupancy.






Living Cost: General cost of living, excluding accommodation, for students studying in the area ranges between RM800 and RM1,200 per month. This would cover expenses like food, transportation, books, and miscellaneous personal expenses. Please note, these are estimates and actual costs may vary based on individual lifestyle and choices.
2.8 HELP Damansara Heights Student Accommodation
Off-Campus: There are several accommodations spread out in the vicinity of the campus, consisting of a premium condominium, low rise co-living buildings, bungalows and terraces. They are Twins@Damansara Heights, VW Bungalow, VW Residence, and VW Terrace. Free shuttle is available.

PTPTN Financial Aids
Malaysian students can apply for the National Higher Education Fund or PTPTN which is responsible for giving loans to students pursuing tertiary education. PTPTN falls under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education.
You can borrow from RM3,400 to a maximum RM50,000 per annum depending on the level and type of course you are taking. PTPTN only charges an annual interest rate of about 1%.

Psychology is a must highlight as HELP’s reputation has been built on its pioneering track record of building awareness about psychology studies in Malaysia and producing thousands of psychology graduates for more than 20 years.
At any one point the Faculty of Behavioural Science supports more than 1,000 students under the care and tutelage of over 50 lecturers and graduate tutors.
HELP’s Bachelor of Psychology is one of, if not the most comprehensive psychology degree in the country with over 20 psychology electives taught by specialists in various fields. These diverse and interesting elective options include Conflict Theory and Resolution, Forensic Psychology, Human Motivation, Music Therapy, Learning Disabilities and Gender Studies.
On top of this, graduating students can progress their education towards Master of Clinical Psychology, Masters in Counselling, or Master of Philosophy (Psychology) and subsequently PhD in Psychology.




Being at the forefront of psychology research, the faculty uses the latest technology such as EEG Lab where students and/or research participants put on Virtual Reality headsets so that researchers can measure brainwave activities.
Just like most of its undergraduate courses, students have the choice to transfer to over 20 partner universities in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand such as University of South Australia, Curtin University, Otago University and University of Maine.

Psychology studies at HELP University extends beyond the classroom where students get many opportunities and exposure to apply their knowledge:

Business Analytics, Data Analytics and Finance Courses
The popular business related courses students choose at HELP are Business Analytics and Finance. The business faculty has over 40% of educators with a PhD qualification.
In 2019, HELP opened one of the largest Bloomberg Finance Lab which is housed within the RM25 million Business Analytics Technology and Innovation Centre (BATIC) of the HELP Subang 2 campus. With this resource, students are able to immerse in financial analysis & advisory using real-time data from the financial markets.


Upon completion of the Bachelor of Business Analytics (Hons), graduates will receive the SAS-HELP University joint certificate and digital badge in Business Analytics. SAS is a global statistical and analytics software company with revenues of more than $3 billion annually.
The Bachelor of Business (Finance) (Hons) incorporates more than 70% of the syllabus from CFA making it easier for students who intend to pursue a CFA certification.
Under the Faculty of Computing and Digital Technology, HELP also offers the Bachelor of Information Technology (Hons) (Data Analytics) as the software and data analytics market will be a huge market.
The BATIC was set up to train students in Big Data Analytics and the university also tied up with Mobius Group, a Data Science expert service and programme provider to review the course content and develop new micro-credential courses, which will be endorsed by industry players.

Law & Criminology Courses
HELP provides studies for Law and also has an interesting Master course for Crime Management.
HELP was also one of the pioneering private universities to introduce the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law). Partners include Cardiff University, University of Liverpool, University of Leeds, and other reputable names.
The Bachelor of Laws (Hons) is recognised by the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board (MLPQB). The teaching faculty is composed of former practising lawyers who are now full-time academia.

Interested students can also take a 4-months Polygraph Examiner’s Course course and consider advancing their studies into HELP’s Master of Science in Economic Crime Management. It is the first programme in Asia-Pacific that earned full accreditation from the Finance Accreditation Agency (FAA), an independent quality assurance and accreditation body supported by Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia.
The Masters course equips graduates with the knowledge and know-how on competencies in managing corporate and advanced technological resources to combat economic crime.
Early Childhood Education
The Diploma and Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) offered at HELP is also enrolled by many students annually due to its long standing reputation for its robust and comprehensive training.
