1. What Is Digital Marketing?

A Digital Marketing Course is a field of study that teaches you how to promote products, services, and brands online. Essentially, it teaches  how to market in today’s fiercely competitive world using tools like Google Ads, SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, and websites.

It’s a broad field that covers skills in data analysis, content creation, digital marketing tools, and marketing strategies to reach the right audience and convert them into customers.

Why It Matters To The World?

  • Digital marketing helps to reach customers in remote places and demographics which are scattered and will be costly to businesses to set up a physical presence.
  • Consumer attention is moving online, especially with the younger generation who will eventually command the purchasing power when they get older and generate income or when wealth is passed down to them.
  • Digital marketing enables businesses to quantify their goals. It provides businesses with data and analytics to track their performance so they can make better decisions for the future.

4. Digital Marketing Course Pathways & Entry Requirements

There are 2 pathways you can consider when studying a Digital Marketing Course in Malaysia.

Pathway 1: SPM/O-Levels ➔ Pre-University/Foundation ➔ Digital Marketing Degree

One pathway towards Digital Marketing studies is to enter a Pre-University course (A-Level, SACE, STPM) or a Foundation course offered by the university of your choice.

As an SPM / O-Level leaver, the entry requirement is 5 credits to enter Pre-U or Foundation.

A Pre-University course or Foundation typically takes 1 to 2 years to complete and will qualify you to enter into a Degree in Digital Marketing.

Some universities offer Degrees that clearly specialise in Digital Marketing, for example, a Bachelor (Hons) in Digital Marketing, but generally speaking, most universities offer it as a specialisation or major, which you can choose in your second year of a Degree in Marketing or Degree in Business.

A Digital Marketing Degree will take 3 years to complete. Here are the general requirements to enter with qualifications from popular pre-university courses or a foundation course:

Pathway 2: SPM/O-Levels ➔ Diploma ➔ Digital Marketing Degree

Studying for a Diploma in Digital Marketing / Diploma in Marketing / Diploma in Business course is a secondary option to qualify for a Degree.

As an SPM / O-Level leaver, the entry requirement is 3 credits to enter into a Diploma.

A Diploma takes about 2 years to complete, depending on the university offering.

Many students also choose to continue with a Degree after completing their Diploma, in this case, to deep-dive into Digital Marketing know-how, techniques, and methods.

7. Your RIASEC Compatibility To A Digital Marketing Course

The John Holland Theory of Career Choice states that in choosing a career, people will choose one similar to their personality to ensure job satisfaction, job performance, and career success. The test generates 6 different personality types:

  • Realistic (R)
  • Investigative (I)
  • Artistic (A)
  • Social (S)
  • Enterprising (E)
  • Conventional (C)

With the RIASEC Test, the 6 personalities can generate up to 720 combination possibilities to provide career compatibility. You can try the test yourself here.

To excel in the field of Digital Marketing, you must exhibit these Top 3 traits:
