When you step into a medical school, you expect to see textbooks, lectures, and laboratories. But what if your learning experience also involved treating “patients” on day one and working in a hospital with thousands of beds?
In a recent “Degree Unboxing” episode by Uni Enrol, host Angel Lim explored the impressive Manipal University College Malaysia campus to see how future lifesavers are trained. She sat down with Dr Chong Sook Vui, Deputy Dean and Head of Internal Medicine, to unbox the Manipal University College Malaysia Medicine program.
If you are looking for a highly practical Medicine course in Malaysia, here is an exclusive inside look at the facilities and training methods that make MUCM Medicine so unique! Only at Lot 463-1, Jalan Batu Hampar, Bukit Baru, 75150 Melaka.
🏥 The Clinical Skills Lab & Simulation Centre
When you study Medicine at MUCM, practical learning starts immediately. Dr Chong took Angel into the Clinical Skills Lab and Simulation Centre to show off the high-tech equipment students use from their very first year.
Here, students train on high-fidelity patient simulators; advanced mannequins that can mimic human biological functions! These simulated patients allow students to safely practice essential, life-saving procedures, such as:
- Basic Life Support
- Advanced Life Support and Resuscitation
- Intravenous (IV) Cannulation
- Abdominal Paracentesis
By practising these procedures early and often, students build absolute confidence in their procedural skills before they ever have to treat a real human patient.

🛏️ Massive Clinical Exposure
A great medical degree is defined by its clinical training. MUCM provides its students with unparalleled clinical exposure.
Students undergo their clinical training in major public hospitals and healthcare clinics. The sheer scale of this training is massive! Through bedside teaching, MUCM students have access to roughly 2,000 inpatient beds.
Why is this important? Because a higher number of beds means exposure to a significantly larger and more diverse range of medical cases, diagnoses, and treatments. It ensures that students are exposed to almost every possible medical scenario during their training.
👩⚕️ The Power of Experiential Learning
Dr Chong explained that experiential learning is one of the most critical parts of the MUCM Medicine curriculum. By the time graduates are placed in a real workplace in the future, they have already experienced the day-to-day activities of a doctor firsthand. This makes them significantly more comfortable, skilful, competent, and confident in their roles.
🌟 A 28-Year Legacy of Medical Excellence
When choosing to study Medicine at MUCM, you are joining a rich legacy of medical excellence. Manipal University College Malaysia has been around for 28 years and has produced approximately 10,000 doctors worldwide!
The university’s impact on the local healthcare system is massive. In fact, Dr Chong proudly noted that if you look at the doctors currently practising in Malaysia, roughly 20% of them are Manipal alumni!
With a strong faculty consisting of both local and international experts, students receive personalised attention, regular mentor-mentee sessions, and the direct support they need to succeed in this demanding field.
