1. Introduction
Penang International Dental College (PIDC) is a uniquely positioned institution, established in 2006, and since then has only offered one course, its Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). In terms of qualification, it is equivalent to a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or Bachelor of Dentistry. So don’t get flustered if you see different terminologies from other universities.
Being solely focused on the specialisation of dentistry studies, PIDC has built its reputation as one of the best higher learning destinations for this field. The college even operates a dental clinic on campus that has been in operation since 2008 and played a big role in serving oral health care for the surrounding community especially lower income groups, physically and mentally challenged groups and senior citizens.
PIDC works with the Penang State government, NGOs and welfare organisations to create awareness and encourage people from the lower socio-economic groups to access affordable oral health care. To date, more than 100,000 patients have been treated at PIDC’s clinic.

3.4 Popular Courses Review At PIDC
Dental Surgery
PIDC is one of the oldest and established providers of the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) programme in Penang and is responsible for producing over 800 highly qualified graduates over the years. The course is recognised by the Malaysian Dental Council.
For many years since its inception in 2006, the only programme PIDC has focused on is the DDS, which means you will receive the best guidance from the entire dedicated faculty.

In the first 2 years, clinical studies will be conducted at Saujana Putra Campus, MAHSA University. The final 3 years of clinical training will driven by PIDC at its Butterworth Campus in Penang. You get to experience 2 different states, 2 different campuses and a wider network of friends as part of your student life!
What is great about PIDC is that due to the small student intake size, you will receive
- high-quality attention from academic staff; and
- abundant opportunity to treat hundreds of real patients via the PIDC clinic and hospital postings.
The PIDC clinic alone has helped treat over 100,000 patients which means about 5,000 are seen each year since it was started in 2008.
Furthermore, almost the entire academic staff have doctorates and many have been practising for years and even decades with rich experience to share and impart.
