Sports Science
The University of Portsmouth is a favourite destination for Sports and Exercise Science prospects not only because it is ranked 13th for sports science on The Guardian University Guide 2024, but Portsmouth is also known as a sporty city, and has a track record with sports in the UK!

Students have the option of a 3 or 4-year pathway:
- 3-year pathway – Students have the opportunity to sandwich their placements between their 2nd and 3rd years.

Engineering Courses

Engineering courses at the University of Portsmouth focus on 4 areas – Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Energy Engineering. Each pillar of focus at the university has been given equal attention to ensure that students graduate with the best skills, regardless of which major they choose.
The undergraduate courses at the university come with an option to convert to a 4-year integrated Master’s degree. For students looking to take the Chartered Engineer Pathway, you will be happy to know that this route satisfies the conditions as you will graduate with an MEng.
Both the 3 and 4-year options share the same modules, and the 4th year focuses on an interdisciplinary project that helps students get practical experience in the field. The project usually links to the university’s research and commercial activities.
In line with the student’s projects, the University of Portsmouth has strong links with the industry. Students will be able to work on a project, or listen to guest lectures from industry giants like Rolls Royce, Mercedes-AMG, Bosch, Skanska, and many more!

Pharmacy Studies

The University of Portsmouth has been offering the pharmacy course since 1919!
Here, students are offered a 4-year, full-time Integrated Masters Degree in Pharmacy. The university is also popular as it is ranked 3rd in the UK for pharmacy and pharmacology courses (The Guardian University Guide 2024)!
Students will learn from qualified pharmacists whose backgrounds are in community and hospital pharmacy settings. Course modules are also always changing to ensure that they match the changes in the discipline or industry and stay relevant to future careers or further studies.
With practicals being a vital part of the pharmacy industry, students will be exposed to real-life situations through the facilities on campus. Students can learn to adapt to health and care-related environments through the Centre for Simulation in Health and Care, practice dispensing medicine in the Model Pharmacy, and develop and test new drugs in the pharmaceutics laboratories.
Students will also be exposed to a multidisciplinary environment, where they will work with students studying medicine and other health-related courses that are offered at the university.
As part of the practical process, students can opt to sandwich a year in placement during their studies or do a full year after their final year. Students can work in one pharmacy setting or different settings, such as communities, hospitals, or general practice.
Upon completing a full year, students complete their required Foundation Training, and can then sit for the General Pharmaceutical Council’s examinations to become fully qualified pharmacists. The university will guide students through this practical year, and provide support for another 5 years after students leave the university.
Psychology Studies
The Psychology course at the University of Psychology has seen a rise in popularity due to the rise in demand for psychologists, with 750,000 people in the UK working in an area that involves psychology, a study from the British Psychological Society (BPS) found.
They cater to these demands, the university has prepared a course that is all-rounded, accredited by the BPS, and one that prepares students for today’s industrial landscape. Students will learn about every aspect of psychology from Year 1 to the Final Year, from the basics of Psychology to Evolutionary Psychology.
Students can also create their bespoke final year by choosing subjects and specialised modules that most interest them. The modules in the final year are fully optional, giving students the flexibility to pick subjects that prepare them best for their future career path.
Students will also gain valuable insight through regular one-on-one tutorials with experienced psychologists involved in research at leading research centres, including the Centre for Comparative and Evolutionary Psychology and the Dog Cognition Centre.
Students will also benefit from the specialist laboratories and equipment that are purpose-built for psychology. Among them are a Psychophysiology lab, Eye tracking technology, and thermal cameras.
