University of Cyberjaya (UOC) built its reputation from its quality healthcare courses over the years

MBBS Course

UOC’s Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) are taught by experienced specialist doctors who are recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and registered with the National Specialist Register (NSR).

Since the launch of the programme in 2005, the university has built a track record of producing close to 2,000 medical professionals, which validates the quality of the curriculum and its educators.

The initial years serve as a foundation for basic medical knowledge on anatomy, pathology, microbiology, immunology, physiology and more. In Year 1 and 2 you will also start to receive early clinical and professional development exposure training on-campus.

Notably, the programme includes Disaster and Relief Medicine in Year 2 onwards, preparing graduates for humanitarian missions.

The clinical phase begins in Year 3, where you will be posted to hospitals and health centres affiliated with the Ministry of Health and rotated based on different elective specialisations.

Various pedagogy or teaching methods are incorporated to ensure you have a rich learning experience such as student-centred team-based learning (SCTL), problem-based learning (PBL), clinical skills training (CST) and task-based learning and mentorships.

UOC’s MBBS course is recognised by MMC and other international medical bodies.

Pharmacy Studies

UOC provides a complete pathway for Pharmacy studies from Diploma to Doctor in Pharmacy (Pharm.D).

For a student enrolling into the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), you will immediately be exposed to hands-on experiential learning in Year 1

Throughout the course, you will be taught about the formulation of dispensed medicine by UOC’s experienced faculty educators who are also very involved in research and will be publishing scientific journals.

In Year 3 you are tasked to utilize your research skills and knowledge to work on a Research Project on selected pharmaceutical topics that can be related to the industry, innovations or ethics in this

The final year will see you go through industrial training and attachments at various training sites such as pharmaceutical manufacturers or corporates, primary care clinics, community pharmacies, hospitals and research centres.

The curriculum also covers several niche but relevant aspects of pharmacy applications such as disaster & relief medicine, nuclear pharmacy, veterinary pharmacy, military pharmacy and cosmetics & nutraceuticals. This provides more awareness for students to explore the various possibilities of a pharmaceutical career.

Hey, get more insights on how you’ll be taught! (Pharmacy and Cosmetics)

Cosmetics Studies

An interesting course provided by UOC is the Diploma in Cosmetics. If you think this is about make-up, it is far from that.

Instead, you are trained in knowledge and skills related to the formulation and therapeutic application of cosmetics.

At the end of the 2.5-year course, you will have a deeper understanding of the principles of cosmetic preparation, formulation, evaluation and safety.

Your lecturers possess backgrounds in pharmacy, biomedical and cosmetic sciences. Many of them are also cosmetics practitioners (aesthetic doctors, medispa entrepreneurs, etc.). Guest lecturers from the government may share about important cosmetics regulations.

Graduates are encouraged to be entrepreneurs or innovators in the cosmetics and beauty industry. Products that you will be able to formulate include lotion, skincare, hair products, oral products, colour cosmetics and more.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is an alternative medicine concept conceived by the German physician, Samuel Hahnemann in 1796. According to WebMD it is a ‘’medical system based on the belief that the body can cure itself. Those who practice it use natural substances like plants and minerals to help stimulate the healing process.’’

No, homeopathy is not a witch doctor practice. It is actually a regulated practice of the holistic system of medicine under the Traditional & Complementary (T&CM) Division, Ministry of Health, Malaysia.

The Bachelor of Homeopathic Medical Science (Hons) is carefully designed to be in line with western medical practices and is viewed as complementary to human well-being.

AT UOC, you are taught by experienced homeopathy and medical doctors, academicians, researchers, and clinicians. Some of the lecturers also run their own homeopathy centres.

Clinical training is conducted on-campus at the UOC’s own Homeopathy Centre and partner clinics. Medical labs shared with MBBS students are also used to learn about anatomy, physiology, pathology, homeopathic pharmacy and more.
