Have you ever wondered what it takes to survive and thrive in medical school? To get the inside scoop, Uni Enrol sat down with Marsya, a brilliant Year 2 student currently studying Medicine at Monash University Malaysia.
In this exclusive Medicine Student Interview, Marsya shares her secrets to scoring straight A+S her experience transitioning from pre-university, and her top tips for surviving the rigorous Monash University Malaysia Medicine program. If you are looking for the perfect Medicine course in Malaysia, grab a cup of coffee and let’s dive into her inspiring journey at Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor!
Q: Have you always wanted to be a doctor since you were young?
Marsya: Yes, since I was very young! It has always been my dream.
Q: I would assume you scored really well for your SPM. Did you get full As?
Marsya: I actually got a straight A+!
Q: Oh my God! Straight A+? How did you do that?
Marsya: I pretended to be interested in every subject! It was basically a “delulu becomes solulu” situation—my delusions of liking the subjects actually became the solution to scoring well!
Q: What did you study for Pre-U before entering your Medicine degree?
Marsya: After SPM, I decided to go for the Monash University Foundation Year, also known as MUFY. It is a fast-tracked one-year program divided into two semesters.
Q: Why did you choose Monash University Malaysia compared to other universities?
Marsya: When I first visited Monash University Malaysia, I was really amazed by all the facilities, especially the ones inside the Medicine building.
Another great thing is the learning environment. Even though we have big classes, you never feel left out. Even if you sit all the way at the back and can’t see the front, there are TV screens right next to you! Plus, if you try to be super quiet, the lecturers will find you and hit you with a pop quiz, so you are always engaged and learning.
Q: Since Medicine is such a challenging degree, how do you manage your time?
Marsya: First of all, you really need to have a passion for it. You cannot be forced to study Medicine. I know people who were forced into it, and they ended up dropping out, which is just a waste of time.

Secondly, time management is crucial. A Medicine course in Malaysia is tough, and because our program has more than ten subjects in a single semester, you really need to have strict discipline. What I do is keep a dedicated To-Do List. I update it every single week and make sure everything gets done before the following week begins.
Q: Which particular department do you really want to specialise in at the hospital in the future?
Marsya: I am very interested in Cardiology! I definitely want to be a heart surgeon.
