Have you ever wondered what the daily vibe is like at the Monash University Malaysia campus? In a recent “Degree Unboxing” video, Uni Enrol host Angel Lim took to the vibrant corridors of the campus to get the inside scoop directly from the students and staff of the School of Arts and Social Sciences.
Her mission? To uncover the reality of studying a top-tier Public Relations (Healthcare) course in Malaysia. Here is what she found at Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor!
🎶 The “High School Musical” Experience
Angel’s first stop was a chat with Nikhil Thanasan, a student majoring in Public Relations in Monash University Malaysia. When asked what the school’s theme song would be, Nikhil didn’t miss a beat: “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical.
Why? Because the program is heavily focused on collaboration. Nikhil highlighted that students are constantly teaming up on assignments and projects, proving that the Monash University Malaysia Public Relations cohort knows the true meaning of teamwork.

📈 PR: It’s More Than Just Smiling at Entrances
To get the academic perspective, Angel tracked down Dr Rizwanah Souket Ali, a Lecturer in Public Relations. Angel asked the burning question: Is PR all about publicity?
Dr Rizwanah spilt the tea. While old-school PR might have been heavily focused on press releases and just smiling at the entrance of events, the industry has evolved. Today, modern PR is a whole new world. It’s about:
- Becoming a skilled strategist.
- Building genuine trust with audiences.
- Developing strong leadership skills with clear objectives.
💼 Where Can a Public Relations (Healthcare) Degree Take You?
Next up was Rubin Khoo, a Senior Lecturer in PR, who hilariously admitted to surviving on little sleep due to grading papers until 3 AM!
When he’s not doing late-night marking, he’s teaching students how to navigate the massive range of careers available to PR graduates. According to Rubin, a Public Relations course in Malaysia equips you with a unique perspective to understand how to communicate with the public, opening doors to:
- Tackling global issues
- Working in major corporations
- Journalism
- Content creation

🚀 “We Don’t Need Luck!”
The tour’s grand finale ended in the office of Professor Duncan McDuie-Ra, the energetic Head of the School of Arts and Social Sciences. When Angel relayed a “good luck” message from the previous interviewee, the professor jokingly fired back, “No! I don’t need luck!” He proudly stated that the school has everything covered: critical thinking, problem-solving, literature, and creativity. His energetic message to future students was clear: “Come, come, come quickly! We need you. The world needs you!”
Ready to Start Your PR Journey?
If you’re looking to dive into the dynamic world of PR, Professor Duncan happily noted that the February, July, and October intakes at Monash University Malaysia are officially open.
