What is it really like to train as a healthcare professional? To find out, Uni Enrol sat down with Jin, a passionate Year 3 Bachelor of Pharmacy student, for an exclusive Pharmacy Student Interview.
If you have been searching for the perfect Pharmacy course in Malaysia, Jin’s exciting journey of studying pharmacy at Monash University Malaysia will give you a fantastic glimpse into what it takes to succeed in this highly rewarding field. From ditching the traditional “memorise and test” methods to solving real-world medical cases, let’s dive into his story at Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor!
Q: Before choosing the Monash University Malaysia Pharmacy program, did you consider other science courses like Biomedical Science or Biotech?
Jin: Yes, I actually did consider them! However, I soon realised that my true passion is helping people. I wanted a career that was highly caring and helpful, so I decided to go into Pharmacy. It is a very direct way for me to give back to society.
Q: Why did you choose Monash University Malaysia compared to other universities?
Jin: It was a straightforward choice! I chose Monash University Malaysia for three main reasons: it is a high-ranking university globally, it offers a great student life, and it provides excellent employability after graduation.

Q: How are you finding your learning experience and the syllabus so far?
Jin: I find the syllabus really interesting! The teaching style here is quite fresh and new to me. Growing up, many of us in Asia were used to just memorising facts and sitting for final exams. But here, the classes provide a lot of “engageability” and interactive learning, which makes studying much more effective and fun.
Q: As a Year 3 student, have you gotten any hands-on, real-world exposure yet?
Jin: Oh, yes! Just recently, we had our community placement. It was an amazing experience to step into a real pharmacy setting. Working under the close supervision of a professional pharmacist, I was able to do actual patient counselling and even hand out some medications with my supervisor’s permission. It served as a fantastic training ground to get real-world exposure and practice being a pharmacist!
Q: Which specific area of Pharmacy are you most interested in pursuing for your future career?
Jin: I am definitely leaning towards Clinical Pharmacy. To me, being a clinical pharmacist feels like being a detective! Whenever I am solving medical cases and figuring out the best treatments, it gives me a real purpose in life. I am genuinely happy to do it, and nothing beats the feeling of seeing patients happy and healthy after I have helped solve their cases.
