Have you ever wondered what it actually takes to study food science? To get the inside scoop, Uni Enrol caught up with Wei Ni, a bright and passionate student currently enrolled in the Monash University Malaysia Food Science course.
In this exclusive Food Science Student Interview, Wei Ni shares her personal journey, her brilliant ideas for food innovation, and why she believes this program stands out as a top-tier Food Science course in Malaysia. Let’s dive right into her student experience at Monash University Malaysia, Jalan Lagoon Selatan, Bandar Sunway, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor!
Q: Why did you choose to study the Bachelor of Food Science and Technology at Monash in the first place?
Wei Ni: I think everyone knows that Monash University Malaysia has a very high global ranking, as well as great global recognition! Also, this specific program offers a lot of incredible industrial connections and research opportunities. On top of that, the study environment over here is really dynamic. We get to meet and interact with a lot of international students, which I find to be quite inspiring.

Q: What exciting food innovations are you eager to explore in your upcoming Food Product Development unit?
Wei Ni: I think I would really like to explore meal replacements that are designed specifically for university students! You know, uni students usually don’t get enough sleep, are always rushing to class, and often don’t have the time to eat properly. So, I want to create something that is ready-to-eat, affordable, and nutrient-packed—like a specialised snack bar or fortified drinks that could give them a quick boost of energy during their long lectures.
Q: What is one of your most wonderful learning experiences at Monash so far?
Wei Ni: I think one of the most wonderful experiences I’ve had was through the Food Bioprocess Technology unit, where we actually got the chance to visit Yakult’s manufacturing facilities! It was really eye-opening. We got to take the exact concepts that we learned in our textbooks—like fermentation processes, the cultivation of bacteria, packaging, and bottling—and see how they translate directly into real-world industrial applications.
